Pancake Day!


Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is a day known for stuffing yourself with pancakes as you clear out your cupboards before 40 days of lent. The most pancakes eaten in one sitting is an Australian man who ate 80 pancakes in over 17 minutes. Challenge accepted!

When is Pancake Day?

Pancake Day will be on Tuesday, 5 March 2019, it always takes place the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Chrstian season of Lent in the run up to Easter.

What is Pancake Day?

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is traditionally a day for using up rich food such as butter, milk, and eggs in one final big meal before Lent begins. Lent being the 40-day period of fasting and repentance that leads up to Easter. Shrove Tuesday comes from the word shrive, which means to confess and receive absolution, the custom is to confess your sins before Lent.

How can I celebrate Pancake Day?

The most obvious way is to make and eat pancakes with your family and friends. Some people stick with the traditional lemon and sugar while others use cheese, ham or get more adventurous. Many villages and towns now hold pancake races and other pancake related activities on this day. And lastly, decide what you are giving up for lent, some popular ideas are giving up caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and caffeine.

Tip: Wait until the countdown hits 0 if you're in for a treat!
