National Dog Day!

National Dog Day celebrates our furry best friends who lie next to us in bed or work selflessly to save lives. Did you know that petting a dog is proven to lower blood pressure?

When is National Dog Day?

National Dog Day is on Sunday, 26 August 2018.

How can I celebrate?

National Dog Day is a celebration of dogs of all breeds, both pure and mixed, in order to create awareness around the number of dogs that need to be rescused and adopted each year. It is also a day to celebrate both family dogs and also working dogs such as service, rescue, law enforcement and bomb disposal dogs. Today is a day to pamper your dog with treats or to offer a rescue dog a nice home. In the US, approximately 1.2 million dogs are euthanized each year. So adopt, donate money, blankets, pet food, or toys to your local animal shelter or volunteer your time there.

How was the day conceived?

Colleen Paige, a pet lover and advocate, conceived and promoted National Dog Day back in 2005.
