Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. One of the major festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair. शुभ दीपावली!

When is Diwali?

This years Festival of Lights will be on Wednesday, 7 November 2018 and will last for five days, with the main celebrations happening on the third day when the moon is at its darkest.

Why is Diwali celebrated?

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra who is the 7th avatar of the incarnation of Vishnu. This day is believed to be the day Rama returned after 14 years of exile to his people after fighting and winning a battle against not only demons but also the demon king, Ravana.

How can I celebrate Diwali?

The festival is over five-days and is a festival celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world, it also coincides with the Hindu New Year and celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkenss. It is celebrated with fireworks, feasts and gifts.
